Stone Masonry Unlimited, Inc. Agrees to pay $10,000 in Fines for Alleged Misclassification Violations

Inspectors from the Attorney General's Office conducted a routine field inspection in February, 2008, of the Lenox Farms Housing Project in Braintree.  After speaking with the foreman and four employees of Stone Masonry at the Braintree jobsite, inspectors learned that these employees were receiving direction directly from Garcia.  Authorities contacted the company's registered agent and learned that Stone Masonry did not list the five employees at the Braintree site on its general payroll records.  Investigators discovered that none of the workers at the site were properly classified as Stone Masonry employees for their work done in Massachusetts.  The company failed to make the appropriate deductions and withholdings for State and federal taxes, worker's compensation and unemployment tax.
