Wage theft is a major problem in Massachusetts, resulting in over $700 million being stolen from workers annually through non-payment of wages; payments below the minimum or promised wage; non-payment of overtime; and misclassification of employees as independent contractors.

Additionally, the state loses out on nearly $400 million annually in revenue through uncollected income and Unemployment Insurance taxes. We can’t continue to let cheating companies gain an unfair advantage over those that play by the rules while workers struggle to pay the bills.
